He spoke out on issues like climate change, economic inequality, and migrant rights — bringing moral urgency to global debates. Rather than ruling from a palace, he often emphasized closeness: living simply, traveling humbly, and focusing on personal outreach. He tried to reform the Vatican’s bureaucratic structures and financial systems, pushing for greater transparency.
